Delta Vision Draft Status and Trends Report
A public review draft of a report titled Status and Trends of Delta-Suisun Services is now available. The report was prepared by URS Corporation for the Department of Water Resources to provide the Delta Vision Task Force and Stakeholder Coordination Group a common understanding of the environmental and economic services provided by the area. This report will be integrated with other studies and initiatives to provide a richer understanding of the Delta-Suisun and to help people develop a vision and plan to benefit the Delta-Suisun.
Most prior and current planning efforts for the Delta-Suisun offer a fragmented assessment and outlook for those areas. Few people may know about the array of Delta-Suisun services. For example, people interested in the recreational services may not be aware of the utilities services the area provides. There are some Californians who are unaware that the Delta-Suisun exists, although they benefit from its services when they turn on their water taps. People across the nation literally enjoy the fruits—and vegetables—of this area, which also serves as part of the West Coast’s international shipping hub.
Status and Trends of Delta-Services focuses on nine services in the Delta-Suisun: land uses (agricultural, urban and conservation); flood management; ecosystem; water supply; water quality management and discharges; transportation; utilities; recreation and tourism; and local and State economics. This report includes an overview of the existing status of each service and a perspective of how that service may change in the future. Both status and trends are influenced by existing regulatory and management practices. This report does not include an analysis of how the trends may differ under alternative scenarios; that analysis will be presented in other studies and reports.
